Regulations

Students may enter multiple categories (ex. Festival and Competition, or Competition and Concerto)

I. Festival Showcase

Designed for solos and chamber ensembles to perform in a supported environment with constructive feedback. This non-competitive track focuses on musical growth and performance experience without rankings or peer competition.

Chamber Ensemble Eligibility: Open to groups comprised of primarily string instruments.

II. Solo Competition

Participants will perform to a jury and will be formally scored and ranked, with top performers eligible for placement awards and honors.

• Group AGrade 4 and below
• Group BGrades 5–6
• Group CGrades 7–8
• Group DGrades 9–10
• Group EGrades 11–12

III. Concerto Competition

Performers will perform to a jury and compete for placement awards and featured performance opportunities.

Open to all students who are school-aged.

• Applications and fees must be submitted by the registration deadline to ensure student participation.
• Entry fees are non-refundable unless a level is canceled due to low enrollment.

No self-compositions or unpublished pieces will be allowed for any category.

Festival Showcase

Solo Competition

Two pieces from contrasting periods.

• I. from Classical period or earlier
• II. from Romantic period or later.

Concerto Competition

One fast movement of standard concerto repertoire, including any cadenzas where applicable.

Check-In & Scheduling

• ArrivalContestants must check in at least 20 minutes before their scheduled time slot.
• Late ArrivalsAnyone arriving after their scheduled slot forfeits their guaranteed performance time. Late performances are permitted only if judge schedule allows and up to the judge's discretion.

Sheet Music Requirements

• Original CopiesJudges require original, printed sheet music. Photocopies are strictly prohibited.
• Digital PrintsMusic purchased online is acceptable only if accompanied by proof of purchase.
• Score MarkingsMeasures must be numbered. The student's and teacher's names must be removed or covered.
• Non-Compliance PenaltyStudents who do not bring acceptable sheet music may still perform, but only for comments—they will not be scored or eligible for awards.

Performance Rules

• MemorizationAll pieces must be performed completely from memory.
• Public AttendanceThe Solo Competition and the Concerto Competition are open to the public this season.
• Judges' AuthorityOnly judges may stop a performance. To keep the event on schedule and allow time for written comments, judges may cut off a performance at the time limit or ask students to skip repeats/recapitulations.
• Door MonitorsMonitors will notify judges only when a time limit has been reached.

Accompanists

• FestivalAccompanist is optional but recommended.
• Solo Competition and Concerto CompetitionAccompaniment is required where applicable for performed repertoire.

• The Peachtree Music Festival does not provide accompanists; students are fully responsible for securing and bringing their own accompanists and accompanist scores.

Event Operations & Conduct

• Minimum Division SizeA competitive level must have at least three applicants to take place. If a level is canceled, entry fees will be refunded.
• No Direct ContactTeachers, contestants, and parents are strictly forbidden from contacting judges regarding performances or ratings before or during the event.
• Inquiries & FinalityAll official inquiries must be sent in writing or electronically. All judges' decisions are final and non-negotiable.

I. Festival Showcase

• Certificates & FeedbackAll participants receive a Certificate of Participation and written comments from the judges.
• Rating SystemRatings awarded based on performance evaluation (Details TBD).

II. Solo Competition

• Placement Awards1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place will be awarded in each grade division (Groups A–E). Top prize winners receive trophies.
• Special RecognitionNon-placing participants who demonstrate exceptional performance may receive Outstanding Performer, Honorable Mention, or Award of Excellence designations.
• Grand PrizeA single Grand Prize Winner will be selected from the entire Solo Competition pool to receive a special cash award.

III. Concerto Competition

• Placement Awards1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place will be awarded.
• Cash Prize & FeatureThe 1st Place winner will receive a cash prize and may be granted a featured performance opportunity.
